I saw this video some time ago from Seth Godin – This is broken and my experience with Apple made me think of it. If you have 20 minutes the video is worth watching. The Genius Bar was a great concept when apple just had laptops and ipods etc. Since they have added the iPhone this system is broken. Last week my wife’s iPhone had an issue so I went online to set up an appointment. None were available so I went to store to get on standby. 2 hours later I was seen and given a replacement. I thought wasted 2 hours, but my wife is happy. Well as soon as I got home the new phone had issues. Store is closed now so I get to again tomorrow on Sunday. Of course there are no appointments available. So I figure no way they would make we wait again since they gave me a bad replacement phone. 2 hours later I get another replacement phone.

Everything fixed. Well try again. So on Monday the new replacement locks up again. So I go online again to set up an appointment. Once again, the Genius Bar does not have one appointment available. This is the page I get.

So this is going to be my third trip to the store with no appointment.

I am pretty easy going person and understand things happen. I am also a big believer in customer service and stress that at AccuConference. I have many issues with this situation, but it could have been handled much better and could have been a happy customer. At the moment I am not and my main issue with process is when you go to the store and up to the Genius Bar, they have the least number of employees working it. I look around in the store and see 5 or 6 other colored shirts standing around. I’m done and the Genius Bar is broken.

I have been hearing “Term Limits” a lot lately. So why doesn’t Congress have them? I had lunch with my Uncle and we discussed this. He related a story of a Congressman running back in the 70’s. My uncle ask him how long he was going to stay up in Washington. The response was 3 terms. Now 30 years later he is still there. I think this is a problem. Most politicians only plan on serving for a short time, but get sucked into the Washington way. They become career politicians.

From what I have found online the last time this was introduced was back in 1994. The Republicans had majority control for the first time in 40 years. They ran on a campaign called “Contract with America“. It was brought to the floor, but it requires a Constitutional Amendment that requires a two-thirds majority. So fast forward 15 years and we still do not have Term Limits.

The easy answer is that Congress has to pass it, which does not benefit them personally. Why would they vote on ending their career. Most politicians go into Congress with an ok life, but come out as millionaires. Why would anybody in our current system want to give that up?

The answer to that is because it’s better for the country. When was the last time your congressman had to work hard just to put food on the table? It’s nearly impossible to not lose sight of the daily grind when you are being wined and dined by Lobbyists, etc.

Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent I think limiting terms would benefit the country. I believe that while term limits might “get rid of the good ones” it would be a worthwhile sacrifice for the country. The current turnover rate in congress is only at 5%. By limiting terms we are gaining new ideas, limiting corruption, the hold the lobbyist have, and we keep them from losing touch with their constituents.

What are your thoughts for and against? Would love to hear your comments.

Apple has set the bar so high I have not been able to replace it. I love getting new phones. I used to switch phones every 6 months or sooner depending on when a new one came out. That has all changed since the iPhone. Yes, I have tried to get a different phone, but nothing stacks up against it. I have had the same phone for a year 1/2. Actually I have had 4 iPhones because of either breaking or losing them. So what’s a person suppose to do when they can’t get something new. I love the saying “if it’s small, black and expensive-I want it”. I had a sprint and att account so I could get the latest and greatest phone and not worry about the carrier. Sadly, the sprint accont is now closed. So sad.

So let’s get into what I don’t like about the iPhone.

Switching between different email accounts are a pain. 2 clicks back and 2 clicks forward to get from one inbox to another.

No flash – Abode and Apple just need to get along.

No other phones compare

Ability to change email notification sound..

Yes, it is a very small list. This is why it drives me nuts. I can’t replace it. Apple has almost gotten everything right. You can watch a movie, listen to music, VPN to the office, check email, surf the web and take a call. The size of the phone is perfect.

So please please please will someone come out with a better one? If that is possible.
